Plutarch



Plutarch (c.A.D. 46–c.A.D. 120), Greek philosopher and biographer. His Parallel Lives of famous Greeks and Romans, paired for comparison, exemplifies the private virtues or vices of great men; it has had great influence on European literature, notably on William Shakespeare (in Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Timon of Athens).
