Pollen

Pollen, fine yellow powder produced in the male part of flowers and in the male cone of conifers (cone-bearing plants). The male organs of flowers are called stamens; the female parts are called pistils. Pollination is the transference of pollen from the plant's stamen to its pistil. In conifers, pollination occurs when pollen is transferred from the male pollen cone to the female seed cone. Pollen can be transferred by the wind or by birds or insects who come into contact with the flowers. The pollen clings to them and is transferred as they move from flower to flower. After a plant is pollinated, it becomes fertile and begins seed production.
