Pomegranate
Pomegranate, family of tropical shrubs and small trees native to Asia and India and cultivated in the United States. Pomegranates in the wild are shrublike; when cultivated, they grow as trees and can reach a height of 15 to 20 ft (4.6 to 6 m). A pomegranate is valued for its golden red fruit. The fruit is the size of a large apple and has a tough rind. Inside are many small seeds, each of which is enclosed by fleshy pulp. The pulp has a pleasant flavor and is eaten fresh or used to create syrup for drinks.
