Power of attorney



Power of attorney, in U.S. law, legal document authorizing a person to act on behalf of the signatory, usually in business and financial matters. To be officially recorded, it usually must be certified by a notary public. A general power allows the agent to act for the signatory in all circumstances, while a special power covers only specified items.
