Poznan



Poznan (pop. 1,300,000), city in Poland. Located on the Warta River in the west-central part of the country, it was founded in the 9th century A.D. It became part of Poland in 1919 when the national boundaries were realigned following World War I. In 1956 labor riots against communist government policies there led to major reforms for the Polish people. Today, Poznan is an important industrial and educational center.
