Pribilof Islands

Pribilof Islands, group of 4 small islands of volcanic origin in the Bering Sea, about 300 mi (483 km) southwest of Alaska. St. Paul and St. George are the largest. Every spring some 80% of the world's fur seals visit the islands to breed. Since 1911 the seal herds have been protected, and the United States, which acquired the islands in 1867, regulates the harvesting of seals.
