Prince Rupert
Prince Rupert (pop. 15,800), port on the west coast of British Columbia. Lying on an island at the mouth of the Skeena River, Prince Rupert developed in the early 1900s as a western rail terminus for the Grand Trunk Railway. It is a major fishing, lumbering, and pulp processing center, and its ice-free harbor makes it a key Canadian west coast port.
