Princeton University, private university in Princeton, N.J. Chartered as the College of New Jersey in 1746, it was renamed in 1896, when it became a university. A leading U.S. educational institution, it includes world-famous graduate schools of public and international affairs, architecture, and scientific research. It has admitted women since 1969.
