Prostitution

Prostitution, practice of exchanging sexual favors for material profit, usually money. Prostitution is as old as civilization and has flourished throughout history, especially in urban centers, which generate demand and provide conditions of relative anonymity. Although there is some male prostitution, the term usually refers to the practice as performed by women.
