Pruning

Pruning, the cutting away of a plant's branches, shoots, buds, or roots. Pruning is done to shape a plant, increase air and light circulation among the branches, increase fruit and flower quality, remove dead, diseased, injured, or hazardous parts, retard water loss after transplanting, or renew growth. A gardener prunes certain plants according to the season and makes the cut at a prescribed place and angle.
