Public Works Administration
Public Works Administration (PWA), or Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, a New Deal agency set up in 1933 to stimulate employment and purchasing power. Under H.L. Ickes it made loans and grants, mainly to governmental bodies, for projects which included the Grand Coulee and Bonneville dams. The PWA was phased out from 1939.
