Henry Purcell



Purcell, Henry (c.1659–95), English composer, the foremost of his time. A master of melody and counterpoint, he wrote in every form and style of the period: odes and anthems for royal occasions, many choral and instrumental works, and music for plays and masques, including his opera Dido and Aeneas (1689).
