Pygmalion

Pygmalion, in Greek mythology, king of Cyprus who carved a statue of a beautiful woman and then fell in love with it. The goddess Aphrodite brought the statue (named Galatea) to life as an answer to Pygmalion's prayer for a wife just like her, and they were married. The Pygmalion theme has been used by many authors, particularly George Bernard Shaw in his play Pygmalion (1913).
