Quarrying

Quarrying, excavation, from open-pit mines, of dimension stone (cut stone) or crushed stone to be used for building projects or ornamentation. The 3 major methods of quarrying are the plug and feather method, by which rock is loosened by applied pressure; the use of explosives; and channeling with special machinery.
