Quincy

Quincy (pop. 42,554), westernmost city in Illinois, located on the Mississippi River. The development of meat packing, brewing, grain milling, and manufacturing industries and easy access to river transportation made Quincy a commercial center beginning in the 1850s. The city was the site of the sixth Lincoln-Douglas debate (1858), and is the home of Quincy College.
