Ramapithecus

Ramapithecus, prehistoric ape. Its remains were discovered in Pakistan (1932) by the U.S. anthropologist George E. Lewis. Named after a mythological Indian prince, Ramapithecus lived approximately 8 to 14 million years ago. Its remains have also been found in China, Kenya, Greece, and Hungary. In the late 1970s, scientists came to believe that Ramapithecus is most likely related to the orangutan rather than being a hominid, of the human family.
