Jean Philippe Rameau
Rameau, Jean Philippe (1683–1764), French composer and one of the founders of modern harmonic theory. He achieved recognition with his Treatise on Harmony (1722) and composed some 30 operas, among them Hippolyte et Aricie (1733) and Castor et Pollux (1737).
