Range
Range, or stove, appliance that creates heat for cooking and area warming. U.S. cast iron ranges were first produced in the mid-1600s; Europeans developed ranges in the 15th century, while the Chinese invented them in the 8th century. Modern ranges provide individual cooking units on top, and one or more ovens within. They are fueled by gas or electricity; some ovens use microwaves.
