Rattan



Rattan, stems from any of 200 species of climbing palm of the genus Calamus, family Palmaceae. The stems are strong and pliant and are used to make furniture, baskets, canes, rope, and umbrellas. Rattan palms are native to the East Indies and Africa, and some are edible or have medicinal or veterinary uses. The stems may grow to 500 ft (150 m).
