Rebellion of (1837–1838)



Rebellion of 1837–1838, 2 unsuccessful and parallel uprisings against British colonial rule in Canada, prompted by an economic depression and desire for local self-government. A subsequent report by Lord Durham, English governor general in Canada, urged the union of Upper and Lower Canada, which became law with the 1840 Act of Union.
