Sir Michael Redgrave



Redgrave, Sir Michael (1908–85), English actor. An accomplished Shakespearean performer, Redgrave was a noted stage director and appeared in many contemporary plays and more than 50 movies, including The Lady Vanishes (1938), Dead of Night (1946), The Importance of Being Earnest (1952), and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962). Redgrave was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1959. He was married to Rachel Kempson, a popular stage actress; their daughters, Vanessa and Lynn, became famous actresses in their own right.
