Reformed Church in America



Reformed Church in America, offshoot of the Dutch Reformed Church of the Netherlands, based on the doctrines of John Calvin. It was formed on Manhattan Island (1628) by Dutch and Walloon settlers, and received a charter from King William III of England (1696). The Reformed Church founded Hope College in Holland, Mich.; Central College, in Pella, Ia.; and Northwestern College in Orange City, Ia. It maintains seminaries in New Brunswick, N.J. and Holland, Mich.
