Erich Maria Remarque
Remarque, Erich Maria (1898–1970), German-born novelist famous for his powerful antiwar novel All Quiet on the Western Front (1929), describing the horror of the trenches in World War I. In 1932 Remarque emigrated to Switzerland, later becoming a U.S. citizen. Other works include Arch of Triumph (1946).
