Restigouche River
Restigouche River, river in northeastern Canada, more than 100 mi (160 km) long, forming part of the boundary between Quebec and New Brunswick. Abundant trout and salmon attract many commercial and sports fishermen to the Restigouche. The name is derived from a Native American term, translated as “the river that divides like a hand,” referring to the five main branches of the river. Much of it flows swiftly through dense, sparsely inhabited wilderness before widening into a broad estuary at its mouth in Chaleur Bay, an arm of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
