Retriever

Retriever, breed of sporting dog trained to search out and bring back small game shot by hunters. Easily trainable, retrievers are excellent swimmers with water-resistant coats and a highly developed sense of smell. The popular golden retriever and the Labrador retriever can also be trained as guide dogs for blind persons and the hearing-impaired. Other recognized breeds are the Chesapeake Bay, curly-coated, and flat-coated retrievers.
