Revolution
Revolution, fundamental change in the form or nature of a government or societal way of life. A revolution can be a violent one that completely changes a form of government, such as the Russian Revolution (1917). It can also be nonviolent yet have a profound effect on the lives of people, such as the Industrial Revolution or other great changes brought on by technological innovations. Political revolutions usually occur when an outspoken leader or faction is able to capitalize on widespread dissatisfaction with an existing ruler or governing system. Some political revolutions have been nonviolent, with popular opposition forcing a decisive change, while other revolutions have resulted in large numbers of casualties and extensive property damage.
