Revolver

Revolver, pistol with semiautomatic action made possible by the incorporation of a revolving cylinder carrying several bullets. In 1835 Samuel Colt patented the first practical revolver. The modern revolver is based on the Colt design and is used by police and other armed forces throughout the world.
