Reykjavik
Reykjavik (pop. 100,800), capital of Iceland and its chief port, commercial and industrial center, and home of its cod-fishing fleet. Settled in A.D. 877, Reykjavik means “smoking bay,” from the nearby hot springs that provide the city with central heating.
