Rideau Canal



Rideau Canal, waterway in Ontario and Canadian historic site. It serves as a link between Ottawa on the Ottawa River and Kingston on Lake Ontario. It is nearly 125 mi (200 km) long and consists of 47 locks. Completed in 1832, it was originally intended to carry military supplies from the Great Lakes region to Montreal. Instead, it was used to transport settlers.
