Ernestine Potowski Rose



Rose, Ernestine Potowski (1810–92), advocate for women's rights. Born in Poland, she lived in the United States for more than 30 years before retiring to England. In New York State, she fought for and won legislation that allowed women the control of properties they had obtained before marriage (1848). Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, she founded the National Suffrage Association (1869), a group that fought for women's rights—including the right to vote. She was also an active abolitionist and prohibitionist.
