Rosewood



Rosewood, any of a genus (Dalbergia) of trees in the pea family. All species are located in tropical climates. Rosewood from Honduras and Brazil, in particular, is valuable in the commercial manufacture of fine furniture and musical instruments. The color ranges from a deep brown to purple, with attractive blackish streaks and grain markings. When cut, rosewood has a scent similar to that of garden roses.
