Runes

Runes, characters of a pre-Christian writing system used by the Teutonic tribes of northern Europe from as early as the 3rd century B.C. to as late as the 10th century A.D. and sometimes after. The three distinct types are Early, Anglo-Saxon, and Scandinavian. The Runic alphabet is sometimes known as Futhork for its first six characters.
