Runyon, Damon (1884–1946), U.S. journalist and writer. His entertaining stories of tough-talking gangsters, Broadway actors, and the sporting underworld are written in the colorful vernacular of New York City. Guys and Dolls (1931), the first of several collections, became the basis for the successful musical (1950).
