Sabines

Sabines, ancient people of the Sabine Hills (Apennines) in central Italy, northeast of Rome. The legend of the abduction of the Sabine women by the Romans is fictitious, but there were numerous Roman-Sabine wars. Though there were Sabines in Rome from the earliest times, they became Roman citizens c.268 B.C. and disappeared as a separate people.
