Saint Helena
Saint Helena, British island (47 sq mi/122 sq km) in the South Atlantic Ocean, 1,200 mi (1,931 km) west of Africa. Discovered by the Portuguese in 1502, its capital is Jamestown, where Napoleon I died in exile in 1821. With Tristan da Cunha and Ascension, it comprises the British dependency of St. Helena.
