Saint Joseph
Saint Joseph (pop. 83,083), city in northwest Missouri, located on the east bank of the Missouri River about 55 mi (88.5 km) northwest of Kansas City. Saint Joseph was a frontier town, established in 1826 by a French-Canadian trapper, Joseph Robidoux. It became famous as the starting station for the pony express in 1860. The modern city is a distribution center for the meat-packing industry and other regional farm products and manufactures drugs and chemicals, paper products, and other goods.
