Salic law

Salic law, from the 14th century, law to prevent women and those descended from female lines from inheriting the throne and other titles and offices. It was not part of the Germanic Lex Salica (laws regarding the penal code and succession to property), as it is sometimes mistaken to be. Salic law was used into the 19th century in France and Spain, where it was rescinded for Queen Isabella II.
