Salton Sea



Salton Sea, large saline lake in southeastern California. Until flooded by the Colorado River in 1905, it was a depression, known as the Salton Sink, 280 ft (85 m) below sea level. It now covers 370 sq mi (958 sq km) and is 232 ft (71 m) below sea level.
