Saskatoon
Saskatoon (pop. 210,000), largest city of the province of Saskatchewan, on the South Saskatchewan River, western Canada. Founded by John Lake and members of the Temperance Colonization Company in 1883, it was joined to the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1890. It is now a major trading center, and has stockyards and other agriculture-related industry. The economy is also supported by oil refineries and, since the 1950s, potash mining.
