Siegfried Sassoon

Sassoon, Siegfried (1886–1967), English poet and novelist. Decorated for bravery in World War I, he wrote bitterly satirical poetry such as The Old Huntsman (1917) and Counter Attack (1918), which shocked the public with their graphic portrayal of trench warfare, their attacks on hypocritical patriotism, and their pacifist conclusions. His novels include Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man (1928).
