Search warrant

Search warrant, in law, court order issued to give law officers the authority to enter and search private premises for evidence, persons, contraband goods, or illegal equipment, such as counterfeiting machinery. “Unreasonable searches and seizures” are forbidden in the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and the scope of such a warrant is severely limited.
