Secretariat

Secretariat, U.S. thoroughbred racehorse. Born in 1970, he raced only in 1972 and in 1973, when he became the first horse since Citation (1948) to win the racing Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes; Affirmed became the next Triple Crown winner, in 1978). Secretariat retired from racing with lifetime winnings of $1,316,808.
