John Sevier



Sevier, John (1745–1815), U.S. pioneer and first governor of Tennessee (1796–80, 1803–09). He was prominent in the Carolina Campaign of the Revolutionary War and became head of the temporary state of Franklin (1785–88). He represented Tennessee in the U.S. Congress (1789–91, 1811–15).
