Shah Jahan
Shah Jahan (1592–1666), fifth mogul emperor of India (1628–58), under whose rule the Moguls achieved their cultural peak. He built New Delhi and is best known for construction of lavish buildings, particularly the Taj Mahal (1632–45) at Agra, a tomb for his wife, Mumtaz Mahall. He was deposed (1658) by his son Aurangzeb and imprisoned at Agra until his death.
