Shenyang



Shenyang (pop. 4,540,000), formerly Mukden, capital of Liaoning province in northeastern China, on the Hun River. A major industrial city, its products include steel and steel products, tools, chemicals, and processed food. It is also a transportation hub. The city dates from the Middle Ages. It was the capital of Manchu China and the site of the Japanese invasion of Manchuria (1931).
