Shoveler



Shoveler (Anas clypeata), common duck of the family Anatidae native to marshes and lakes of North America, particularly west of the Mississippi River. The shoveler also lives in Asia and Europe and migrates to the Southern Hemisphere. The shoveler has a broad bill longer than its head. The drake has a green head and neck, a white breast, and a black tail. The female is mottled brown. The shoveler feeds in shallow water and nests on the ground. It migrates in small flocks of 5 to 10 birds.
