Stonechat



Stonechat (Saxicola torquata), small bird of the thrush subfamily native to the Eastern Hemisphere, named for the percussive sound of its call. The male is black and chestnut in color, the female somewhat duller. The bird nests on the ground and feeds on insects and seeds.
