Strep throat
Strep throat, infection affecting the throat and tonsils. Its symptoms include fever and a reddening and swelling of the tonsils. The infection is caused by bacteria called streptococci, treatable with penicillin. Left untreated, the bacteria may spread from the throat to other parts of the body, such as the lungs, nose, and ears, causing greater health problems.
