Sun worship

Sun worship, reverence for the sun, as for a god or goddess. Sun worship was practiced by peoples throughout the world, especially in agricultural communities in which the sun was necessary for crop growth. Cultures in which sun worship was prevalent include those of ancient Egypt, Persia, India, and Rome. Native Americans and the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayas of Central and South America also considered the sun sacred.
