Sycamore
Sycamore, popular name for a number of deciduous trees. In North America the name is applied to a plane tree (Platanus occidentalis), the bark of which flakes off. In Europe the sycamore is a maple (Acer pseudoplatanus). The sycamore of ancient times is a fig (Ficus occidentalis) that is now seldom cultivated.
